Worst Best Friend Ever

by Brosie

about

In “Worst Best Friend Ever”, Lauringer sorrowfully reaches out to her former bestie Rosie; if not to preserve the friendship, then at least to say sorry and clear the air. With both closure and emptiness, she’s bidding farewell to a long-distance friendship that did not survive WhatsApp communication.
Her regret and nostalgia sound atmospheric, almost cinematic. The soundscapes translate her emotions through a change of weather. Rain for melancholy, chirping birds for nostalgia. The bridge offers an escape into a happier past: A flashback and a nod to one of Lauringer’s first songs, titled “Brosie”, written for that same friend when everything was still, well, rosy.

lyrics

Verse:
A handful of dusty cheap polaroids fills the void
Of leaving town and leaving you behind
The people I met here make up for the sacrifice
Of conversations with you every night

Pre-Chorus:
I used to call when I’m home
Now I don’t call you at all

Chorus:
I’m sorry for being the worst best friend ever
I just keep letting you down
It’s fair to say lately you deserve better
Someone who’s sticking around

Verse:
I’d lie if I said that I didn’t miss you and I
But I’d lie if I said that I wanna come back
Cause as much as I wish that I could lead a simpler life
Leaving was the only choice I had

Pre-Chorus:
I used to call when I’m home
Now I don’t call you at all

Chorus:
I’m sorry for being the worst best friend ever
I just keep letting you down
It’s fair to say lately you deserve better
Someone who’s sticking around

Bridge:
Rosie, you know I put in lines what I tend to forget
So here’s to the inside jokes, emo clothes, random quotes I still collect Here’s to the phone calls and pub crawls in hope that we will reconnect But until then, you’ll hear me say

Chorus:
I always thought we would brave every weather
But Rosie look at us now
I’m sorry for being the worst best friend ever
I just keep letting you down
It’s fair to say lately you deserve better
Someone who’s sticking around
